Movember: good for fighting cancer, bad for dating

What started out as a joke excuse by a group of guys in Australia back in 2003 for sporting 80’s style stashes has turned into an annual fundraiser prostate cancer research. Movember, the month-long mustache-growing charity event, is doing a great job raising money and awareness for prostate cancer, but it’s doing nothing to help a guy get a date.

Movember is more like the anti-bachelor charity auction, where the more money you raise, the less likely you’re going home with a girl. Guys, chalk stashes up there with cars with tailfins — they went out of style in the 80s for a reason, and unlike leg warmers, haven’t come back.

If you disagree, this post from Jezebel –complete with the worst stashes from back issues of Playgirl– says it all.

But not all facial hair is bad. Guys sporting a light stubble are deemed “tough, mature, aggressive, dominant and masculine – and as the best romantic partners, either for a fling or a long-term relationships,” according to a study by psychologists at Northumbria University.

timmyMovember is worthy cause, no doubt about that, but if you’re a single guy trying to impress the ladies with your charity work, donate rather than grow your own.

On that note, Timmy Levad, business development manager at Cisco, raised $1580 last year for Movember. He doesn’t have to worry about his mustachio being a chick-repellent because he’s married. You can sponsor him at: http://us.movember.com/mospace/6188
